Australia Awards South and West Asia Scholars Prepare to Return Home

Over 170 Australia Awards on-award scholars from the South and West Asia region attended seven Return Home Workshops in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney last month. The workshops prepare awardees for their return back to their home countries and provide support in career planning, reintegration and their return to work.

Australia Awards South and West Asia Scholars Prepare to Return Home

In September 2016, Australia Awards South and West Asia delivered seven Return Home Workshops in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney for awardees completing their studies in Australia between 1 August 2016 and 31 March 2017. A total of 172 on-award scholars from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka attended the workshops.

Return Home Workshops bring together awardees from South and West Asia who are about to finish their studies in Australia to prepare them for their return back to their home countries. The workshops provide the scholars with support in career planning, reintegration and their return to work. The workshops also support awardees to renew and strengthen their interpersonal skills, and provide them with an opportunity to present the new skills and knowledge they’ve gained during their study in Australia to their peers.

The Adelaide Workshop was attended by Dave Gordge, Director of DFAT’s South Australia State Office who presented on alumni engagement and the recently developed Australia Global Alumni Engagement Strategy. The Strategy aims to establish linkages between Australia Awards alumni and Australians, Australian organisations and alumni of other Australian Government-funded programs.

A Networking Event was also held for the completing awardees following the workshop in Canberra that included the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) personnel, Host Institutions, and Program staff.
