Information Sessions

Information Sessions about the Australia Awards Scholarship eligibility criteria, application process and other details will be held every Thursday at 5.00 pm at the Australia Awards Sri Lanka office at 75 1/1 Kynsey Road, Colombo 08 beginning Thursday, 15th February 2018 and ending Thursday, 12th April 2018. What are the Australia Awards Scholarships English Language Requirements?

Applications for Australia Awards Scholarships commencing in January 2019 will open on 1 February 2018 and will close on 30 April 2018, so now is the time to start preparing for your application, including ensuring that you satisfy the necessary English language requirements.

Australia Awards Scholarships in Sri Lanka will be offered to undertake Masters study programs in the priority development sectors of Economic Development, Gender Equality and Good Governance.

If you intend to apply for an Australia Awards Scholarship, you are encouraged to complete either an IELTS, TOEFL or PTE language examination well before your application is due.


Eligibility

To be eligible you must meet the following minimum standards in English language proficiency with results valid as at 1 January 2019:

  • IELTS (Academic): a minimum overall score of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0;
  • TOEFL: a minimum paper-based test score of at least 580, with a minimum of 4.5 in the test of written English or an internet-based TOEFL score of at least 92, with a minimum of 21 in all subtests; or
  • PTE: an academic overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50.

Important: Applicants with a disability or working in the disability sector or working in the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Badulla, Moneragala, Puttalam, Ratnapura or Nuwara Eliya will be considered with an IELTS overall score of at least 6.0 with no band less than 5.0 (or equivalent TOEFL or PTE Academic score).

Australia Awards recipients must meet the English language requirement of their course, which may be higher than the minimum requirements specified here.
